At the end of the day in this age of a totally globalized world, Toulouse doesn’t mean much…Apart from maybe, the aircraft industry, French silicon valley...
Anyway, it’s through this connection that the young Henning Specht’s parents will fly from Hamburg to Toulouse in 1978. Reaching adolescence, the young, tall boy with glasses and an astonishing ability to speak German will discover his big brother’s record collection. His musical culture will therefore take a giant leap thanks to such gems as Snake Finger, Throbbing Gristle, Tuxedo Moon and at least 20 others he will happily quote in interviews…
A few years later, studying sound engineering in Toulouse he will meet the second third of Hypnolove in the form of Nicolas. If Germanic Henning will be the soft spoken dreamer of the gang, Nicolas will turn out to be the local, Epicurean, stage diving bass and guitar player…Nico will introduce Henning to the last piece of Hypnolove: Thierry.
Thierry, the youngest member of the gang stands as the band’s Astérix .. Unifying the others through his wit and crafty ideas... His adolescent fixation is a city called Manchester: Stone Roses, EMF, pop and electro, up the house train until the French house explosion and the godsend that was Daft Punk...
A couple of years later, after meeting the right people with the right attitudes, Hypnolove managed to release a first EP with a radical Italo-dance twist to it. Produced by French house late 90’s journeyman Catalan FC, this EP landed on Jacques Lu Cont’s turntable and then ended up on his mixed comp for his own edition of the notorious FABRIC Live CD’s...the adventure starts to build momentum…
It’s through this EP and a couple of their live shows that Record Makers end up signing them. They were seduced by their ability to write very playful tunes and to perform them live without falling into the trap that plagues most electronic artists (being utterly boring!).
A few years later, Hypnolove and Record Makers are proud to introduce you to their 1st full length album « EUROLOVE ».
Eurolove is a bit like your first kiss…Fresh and emotional...It’s so evident it actually already sounds like a best of. It has Portuguese, German, French, Italian, English songs. It can be danced at slow pace, slamming pace, techno pace, rocking .. it has laughs, tears, seduction, despair, romance .. It has LOVE and it really makes ones mind travel…
But above all, it has huge synth-disco hit « Mademoiselle ». An ode to seduction viewed from a despaired Latin lover trying to hit on a beautiful mademoiselle in a French Riviera high class discothèque. It is an innovative mixture of 70’s nostalgia, modern production, French lyrics and most importantly joy and sadness in the same track...Paradoxical feelings, isn’t that what the French are all about?
Anyway, according to French dance music expert David Blot (Radio Nova, Radio FG + many printed publications)...EUROLOVE is a joyful mashup of:
John Carpenter, David Bowie between Diamond Dogs and Station to Station, early « 87 » Chicago house, Danny Elfman, the Ramones, Kiss, Justice, Black Strobe, Tim Burton .
